Venerable Daiju Zenji is an Australian-born ordained monk in the Rinzai Zen Buddhist tradition. Following many years of formal monastic training in Japan under the guidance of Ven. Shodo Harada Roshi of Sogenji, his practice continues through teaching, writing, and long-term daily Zen discipline based in New South Wales, Australia.
Training & Lineage
While having encountered teachers from several Buddhist traditions, Ven. Daiju’s primary training developed within the Rinzai Zen lineage under Ven. Shodo Harada Roshi of Sōgenji, Japan.
His training included extended periods of formal monastic practice and sesshin, grounded in zazen, sanzen, liturgy, work practice, and continuous daily discipline.
Over the years he has practiced and taught within Buddhist communities in Japan, India, the United States, Europe, and Australia.
Current Work
Ven. Daiju currently writes and teaches from the perspective of long-term Zen practice while also working professionally within mental health and counselling.
He occasionally accepts invitations for school presentations, comparative religion discussions, and public talks.
Shared practice activities are currently being developed on the NSW Central Coast.
